Dancing At The Blue Iguana

4/5

The improv strip club movie, with Daryl Hannah, Jennifer Tilly and Sandra Oh. I first saw this on Foxtel, and I really liked it but at that time I had no idea it was a film that the actors improvised. Watching it again knowing that, I didn't really think you could tell, it actually rolls together really well, the characters they created are all a little messed up and quite sad. You can see the sadness in their eyes, props to the ladies for some really good performances. Especially Sandra Oh, I thought she was really good here, and you could tell she put alot of effort into her character. Her strip/dance to Porcelian is really quite sad and she puts it across so well. Daryl Hannahs character is so clueless, but she does it in such a way, she's cute. She also put alot into her character, it shows. Jennifer Tilly who I always enjoy is a crazy bitch, and she does it well. There are some really funny and weird scenes, like the pregnancy test part. When I'm ready I'll have to watch Daryl Hannahs doco, which is included on the DVD (The R4 release I believe doesn't have any extras and you have to buy the doco on its own).

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

4.5/5

This is a great movie, either you watch this after the series, or you just watch it and don't watch the series. This is Laura Palmer's movie, her last days of her seemingly sad, sad life. I don't know why this is so hated, it's typical Lynch. And I don't understand why people found this hard to follow, I found it extremely easy to follow and was not confused over anything. I supposed people expected this to be like the TV show, but no this is much darker, and I think it has to be. I think a sure sign that this wont be the TV show is the opening scene of a TV getting smashed. The first half hour follows the case of Teresa Banks (Who was mentioned in the TV series, the murder the same as Laura's) and we see how Agent Cooper gets involved and then what leads him to Laura's case. It sort of felt forced to have him there, but you also appreciate it as well. It is too bad the disappearance of Chris Isaak's Agent Desmond just happens and we don't have a resolution. I am not sure if it was in the additional 5 hours of footage or if Lynch was going to explore this in another film which he planned to do, but the plans got scrapped (grrr). Once we get to Twin Peaks, the sad story of Laura Palmer unfolds and there are some really powerful and disturbing scenes. Sheryl Lee was perfect as Laura Palmer, she carries the film so well. I was a little annoyed by Moira Kelly as Donna, her character just seemed off. I don't know if it was because of her, or what. Would have been nice if Lara Flynn Boyle reprised the role (Apparently it was due to schedule conflicts and not the nudity). Another great film by David Lynch, I really just adore the man.

Yep thanks Amazon

So one of my orders came in from Amazon this morning, The Shield Season 4, Showgirls Fully Exposed Edition, Dancing At The Blue Iguana and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. So I went to work, blah blah, came home and opened them up, and well the first thing I opened up out of the packaging and Security Stickers was Showgirls and what did I find...this...

Now how in the hell that happened with it being all sealed up I don't know! First thing I did was fill out the forms on Amazon and first it told me I had to send it back and they'd pay me the shipping for it and replace the item. Then I get an email saying oh don't send it back, it's too expensive, we'll send you another one, bill you for it and then refund it back. Okay... a bit weird though, you'd think they'd want evidence of the problem? I guess I'll keep an eye out if they send the item, it states you have to return the item in 30 days or they can't do anything but this does state I don't have to. Bloody Amazon!

Spider-man 3

3/5

Pretty much a let down, compared to the first two. I found it kinda boring in parts, and the whole Peter/MJ thing is sooo boring and over done. The end part was pretty good, and for the most part the effects with Sandman were good. Venom looked great, but with Topher Grace's 15 yr old voice he sounded lame! Bryce Dallas Howard was cool as Gwen Stacey but sooo underused, it was a shame. She basically shit all over MJ. Kirsten Dunst looked old and tired in this, like she didn't want to be there. Tobey was fine, he suits the role. Oh and James Franco is such a gorgeous guy, he should take his clothes off.

New Shoes

I got new shoes today, I bought a new pair of black Converse, to replace my falling apart four year old ones. They look all clean and intact hehe, and they are the proper size too. My old ones were a size too small and really tight, these new ones are a proper fit, I love it.

I also bought Highlander 2 Disc Edition, been meaning to get that movie for ages, and they recently released a 2 Disc Edition so I got it. "There can only be one" damn I love that movie! Christopher Lamberts best film, for sure, I don't think he has ever topped that. Although playing Raiden comes pretty close hehe but I do have a soft spot for the MK movie.

Twin Peaks

So I just finished watching the series Twin Peaks. I have to say it was quite an amazing show and experience. Season 1 was simply stunning, Season 2 also stunning but not quite as good.

Basically Twin Peaks is the story of a small town, with the most quirky characters. Nothing is what it seems in the small town. We start off with Pete (The excellent Jack Nance) finding a body, "She's dead, wrapped in plastic" are the infamous words he said. The body belongs to Laura Palmer, seemingly innocent High School student. But in Twin Peaks, nothing is what it seems, slowly the story of Laura Palmer gets revealed as her murder gets investigated. Which leads us to one of the best television characters of all time Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), F.B.I. agent sent in to help, as the murder seems alot like that of another young lady. Basically it goes on from there, as we get to know the town and its cast of characters.

I have to say I really did love Dale Cooper, Kyle MacLachlan was flawless in the role, such a perfect fit. I really did also like the town Sheriff Harry S. Truman (Michael Ontkean), their scenes together are always great. The chemistry they had was perfect, as they go along and try and solve the crime, its just such a great watch.

Other stories in Twin Peaks, the dealings of Catherine Martell (Piper Laurie who is excellent), Josie Packard (Joan Chen) and Benjamin Horne (Richard Beymer). Their dealings were great, watching it all unfold, is soo good. Of course always hanging around is Pete, Jack Nance is fanastic.

Then we have Laura Palmers boyfriend Bobby Briggs (Dana Ashbrook), who is actually having it off with married waitress Shelly Johnson (M├Ądchen Amick). Meanwhile Shelly's husband Leo Johnson (Eric DaRe) looks to be up to no good, and a choice suspect in the murder.

Moving on we have Laura Palmer's best friend Donna (Lara Flynn Boyle), who wants to find out what happened to Laura. Working with James Hurley (James Marshall), who was secretly seeing Laura, they wind up getting involved.

Of course there is Sarah Palmer (Grace Zabriskie) and Leland Palmer (Ray Wise), Laura's parents who deal with the loss of their daughter, and things just get stranger and stranger.

Meanwhile at the Sheriff's department we have the on goings of sensitive Deputy Andy Brennan (Harry Goaz) and Lucy Moran (Kimmy Robertson). I have to say these two are insanely adorable, their relationship is so cute. Poor Andy, though gets picked on. I am sure people might have found them annoying, but I liked them.

And then we have the classic character of Nadine (Wendy Robie) who seems some what unstable, and wants to have silent curtain runners. Married to Ed Hurley (Everett McGill), who is in love with Diner owner Norma Jennings (Peggy Lipton), as they have secret meetings. I must say I loved the character of Nadine, and in Season 2 what happens to her is funny and sad at the same time. I just loved it. I really liked Ed and Norma as well, Normas husband who gets released from jail Hank Jennings (Chris Mulkey) also is up to no good.

As the show goes on we see more of Major Garland Briggs (Don S. Davis), the happenings with him are so strange, and great to watch. A great character, and such a great performance as well.

Another minor character who pops up, is the Log Lady (Catherine E. Coulson), her log sees things, and she always seems to help. You can't help but just love the log lady!

Ah, moving on to Miss Audrey Horne (Sherilyn Fenn), the daughter of Ben Horne. She takes it upon herself to find out what happened to Laura, and gets herself into some hot water. Meanwhile she has such a crush on Agent Cooper, they do form a really cute friendship which comes in handy in Season 2.

We also have Laura Palmer's cousin, Maddy (Sheryl Lee who also plays Laura Palmer) come into the story, and Maddy plays a vital role in the story and with the eventual reveal of who the murderer is.

Of course it doesn't stop there, we have the really quirky Doctor Jacobi (Russ Tamblyn), who had a professional relationship with Laura, but there is also much mystery there. And there is Deputy Hawk, who always seems to help out.

There is so much more, like some cool guest appearances from David Duchovney (Hilarious), Billy Zane, Heather Graham and the one and only David Lynch who was just great in the role of Gordon the deaf FBI guy!

Ahh such an amazing show, I already want to watch it all over again. I'm waiting for Fire Walk With Me to arrive from Amazon, which is the movie prequel of the show, but something much more darker and bizarre. I could keep going on about the show, but I'd like to keep things simple for anyone who hasn't seen it and such.

And if you haven't seen it, seek it out, it really is worth it!

Inland Empire

5/5

Lynch has done it again! Another warped film, that is utterly amazing. This is really difficult to actually review. There is just so much here, and the way it is done, just done so well. Much like Lost Highway and Mulholland Dr. this has the same kind of thing, characters, becoming different people. You know the drill. David Lynch has done this in such a way that you can decide for yourself what is going on, the clues are there. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. I was amazed, this is a three hour film, not once did it drag, it actually felt like a 90min film and I wanted so much more. Laura Dern is this movie, she simply puts on a career best performance. I know this film will be hated, it is not for those who want things handed to them gift wrapped. This is a film that makes you think, like trying to solve a mystery. That is the beauty of Lynch's work, he makes you think, he forces you to use your head, to think, to find answers. Quite simply, I love you David Lynch!

Zachary Quinto & Milo Ventimiglia Photoshoots

Well HELLO BOYS! Zachary Quinto and Milo Ventimiglia (You would know them as Sylar and Peter from Heroes) recently did a photoshoot for ZINK Magazine

Here are the pictures in all their glory, so click the thumbnails. They are truly awesome! Oh and if you can't tell the first photo of Zachary, looks to be him as a droog from A Clockwork Orange. I do believe he's a fan of the works of one Malcom McDowell.

Sicky

Yo yo

I'm sick yet again! Seriously I'd love to have a week where I wasn't sick, didn't have any aches and pains, no headaches, no back aches, nothing! But nope, seems I suffer! Its getting really annoying, and really pissing me right off! I seriously need to live in a bubble or something lol! Anyway, obviously being sick, nothing new here! Just been re-watching Heroes, best show since Star Trek! Funny I say that, because there is such a huge Star Trek presence with the show! Its funny, re-watching the show, just picking up on clues and stuff. Although some plot holes are so obvious. I wonder if any of that was fixed for the DVDs? I'll be watching it again when I get those hehe. Yep call me obsessed!

It burns!

Gah so today at work, I was using the steam puffer to get the creases out of a delicate formal top, and the damn thing burnt my fingers, and badly too! I don't think I've burnt my fingers with the steam this bad before, or possibly in my first few weeks there when I got burnt. My fingers are swollen and all gross, and its just burning so badly, burns suck! I burn myself every day at work it seems but not this bad. Usually I don't get steam burns, burns from one of the pressers or the iron we use. I've used so much burn spray and cream too, no much else I can do *sigh*

Sicko

4.5/5

I can't really sum up how I felt about this, shocked more then anything. In terms of the film, I like the way Moore went about it, staying out of the picture for half way through, and when he was in it, he was tonned down. Certainly an important film, and one that needed to be made. While he made points about health care in other countries, I think he painted too much of a pretty picture there, we have to accept that every system has his faults, but some more then others. It was actually quite moving to see the 9/11 volunteers get the help they needed, and how incredibly thankful they were for it. The part in Cuba is a very touching part of the film. Some of the stories coming out of the US are pretty heart breaking, and it is clearly obvious the system there is so flawed and so wrong, something has to be done to change it. I really hope Australia does not go down that path, but the health system here seems to be getting worse as time goes on.

The Simpsons Movie

2.5/5

I can't get over all the hype about this, it was average at best. I barely laughed, Spider-Pig wasn't funny I can't see the big deal over that. This movie should have been made years ago when the show was at its best. This was like an overly long average episode. This is one of the most over rated movies, ever!

Migraines really suck

So yesterday the second I get on the bus home I get an instant migraine, and it was a bad one. It did not let up at all, I felt so horrible! I took pills ect... did the usual, unfortunately I was in a bad mood and not nice to Michael but we made up. I woke up with a headache, but I took some pills and I felt better. Work was alright today, but it got so quiet in the afternoon. I got my day off tomorrow, I'll be exercising, doing laundry and cleaning, woo hoo what fun!

Gotta see Die Hard 4 this weekend hopefully!

Monday, August 6, 2007

Blah blah

So today was a rather boring day, work was a bit busier then it was last week but not by much. It just seemed to drag and drag and drag. Wound up working an extra hour which is good, need the money of course lol. Was just glad to get home, have some lunch and do a bit of exercise, which I am slowly getting back into. I have to be careful not to hurt my back or do anything to make my back pain worse, which is why I am taking it slowly.

Looking forward to watching the latest Entourage, no idea what the episode has in store, but it should be good. Die Hard 4 comes out on Thursday, def looking forward to seeing that, looks like fun. I think we'll go this weekend, or early next week I'd say.

So much else going on, pretty boring, BLAH!

The Lookout

4 / 5

Surprising movie, I wasn't really expecting much, it had a good trailer and I thought surely the movie wouldn't end up being very good. But as I said surprising, it really was quite good! Basically the story of a young guy Chris (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who gets in a bad car accident and gets injured and isn't quite the same again. He lives with a Lewis (Jeff Daniels) a blind man, and attends classes, sees a case worker and does night shift at a bank. He then meets Gary (Matthew Goode), who basically befriends him, puts ideas in his head to get Chris to do what he wants. I suppose it helps through Gary he meets Luvlee (Isla Fisher), Chris fancies her ect... I wont give any more away, as the movie progresses it gets more interesting and intense. Scott Frank, makes his directortial debut and I think he did a really good job, this held my interest from start to finish. All the performances are really good, Joseph Gordon-Levitt can do no wrong. Matthew Goode was surprising as Gary, I think he gave off all the right vibes. Jeff Daniels walked through this, and he did it well. Isla Fisher can play an air head, a cute air head really well. This is definitely a movie I'd recommend.

Top 10 Turn Off's

According to this article at Yahoo! these are the Top 10 Turn Off's Make Great Gals Wave Goodbye. This is a special article for the Yahoo! Personals apparently!

Most guys know from the get-go whether or not they see potential in a woman. There's that inner voice that tells you this is someone worth pursuing.
When the first date ends, you're not even thinking about playing games. You know you want a second date. You wait your standard two days, call to set up that date and get the dreaded voicemail.
You leave a heartfelt message, but after three days it becomes clear this great gal is not calling you back. Where did you go wrong? Were you the only one feeling sparks over lattes?

Top 10 turnoffs for women

Maybe the answer is to learn the top 10 turnoffs that make great gals wave goodbye. If any of these fictional guys sound like you, it's time to change your approach.

Great Gal Turnoff #1: Showboat Sammy
Maybe he owns a yacht off the coast of France. Maybe he has a timeshare in the Hamptons. Maybe his annual bonus is bigger than most guys' salaries. That's all well and good, but does it really need to be divulged on the first date?

Great Gal Turnoff #2: Messy Melvin
A-list celebrities can pull off the unkempt look. First-daters need to pay attention to shaving, clothing and bad breath. If the guy can't even put in the effort for a first impression, it doesn't bode well down the road.

Great Gal Turnoff #3: Rude Ricky
"Where's our drinks, lady?" If a guy treats the service staff with a lack of respect, a great gal will likely assume he'll do the same to her someday.
The last thing anyone wants is to be talked down to or disrespected.

Great Gal Turnoff #4: Cheapie Charlie
There will always be debate about who should pay on a first date. Some guys are traditionalists and want to foot the bill; others expect a 50-50 monetary split. In most cases, offering to pay is the way to go. Let her pick up the tab on a future date.

Great Gal Turnoff #5: Still-Married Michael
Marriage, separation and divorce are pretty cut-and-dry terms. If a guy says he's separated when he really means he's cheating on his wife, it's going to cause trouble. Be honest from the get-go and let the dating chips fall where they may.

Great Gal Turnoff #6: Hands-On Howie
Guys need to read the signals before assuming hand holding, massaging and other touchy-feely activities have the green light.
Jumping too quickly to any form of intimacy can make any guy seem too aggressive.

Great Gal Turnoff #7: Stereotyping Stephen
"Oh, you're one of those types of women." Jumping to conclusions about a date from the way she answers one or two questions is a definite mistake. Let the date unfold before making assumptions about someone you just met.

Great Gal Turnoff #8: Distracted David
His cell phone is ringing constantly, he's popping away from the table every 10 minutes, and he keeps interrupting the conversation flow. First dates require focused attention -- that means putting the phone on vibrate, making eye contact and being present.

Great Gal Turnoff #9: All-Business Barry
Some guys are great salesmen or outstanding negotiators. But there's a time and place for business and a time and place for leisure. Guys who treat first dates like business transactions will never close the deal.

Great Gal Turnoff #10: Nervous Ned
He can't sit still, he's banging his fork on the table, and he won't make eye contact for more than three seconds. Nervous antics are a real turnoff and make a great gal think a guy has something to hide. Work out the nervous kinks before the date starts.

Hope you all had a good laugh! Sometimes you just like those types naturally and it isn't a turn off at all! But really how many guys are exactly like that to the letter? Some are a mixture, and some nothing like that at all and you're still turned off lol! For further reading, here is the turn off's article about what makes good guys wave good-bye!

Next

2.5 / 5

Pretty average movie, silly concept, but if you go with it, it kind of works. Nic Cage was better in this then he was in Ghost Rider, but his hair was just appauling and such a distraction. Julianne Moore who I adore, can do so much better. Jessica Biel was fine, and well lets face it, shes hot. It was going alright until the ending, which ruined it. The action scenes are good, over the top but still good.

Zodiac

4.5 / 5

I've been hanging to see this for so long I really expected that I was going to be let down, but nope! I thought this was excellent, just everything about it, I loved. For me this didn't drag at all and it certainly didn't feel like it was almost 3 hours long. Having read up about the Zodiac case many times, I was interested to see a film about it. Going with the people who were involved with it, and became obsessed with it, having it taking over their lives, it was just so intense to watch. It didn't really stray away from the Zodiac either, which I really liked (A problem that I had with The Black Dahlia, the characters just weren't that interesting, and the case was) and in this they kept up with the case. You could see how it affected the characters, and what toll it took on them, without going too much into it. Performance wise everyone was just spot on, and its always great to see Elias Koteas on screen. Anthony Edwards who usually annoys me, didn't in this, I actually thought he was good. Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr were excellent, probably the stand outs. Jake was good too, the only issue, so many years past and he hadn't really aged. I'd highly recommend this to fans of the genre, you wont be disappointed.

So today...

So today...was pretty boring to be honest. I woke up, woke Mike up because his alaram didn't go off for some reason, he wasn't late for work I don't think. So I tried to sleep a bit more, couldn't, got ready for work. Went to work, did some pressing, it was soo insanely boring, not much work coming in at all. Had lunch, then came home, and silly me forgot my iPod at home so the bus trip was that much more boring and irritating. Took Toby for a walk, met another dog on the way lol and then came home, cleaned up. Got such a huge headache, very annoying. Had a small nap, and now I'm here.

Not sure what I'll be doing the rest of the evening, perhaps watch a DVD with Mike and spend time with the kids (The pets), and then sleep. And then back to work tomorrow. What fun huh!

Anyway, check out my two new pictures, aren't I great?

A few movies I'm looking forward to

So here are some trailers for a few movies I'm looking forward to.

First one is War, and yes my main interest in seeing this is Jason Statham mmm, but the movie looks pretty exciting, although the voice over guy is pretty lame in the trailer.

Next one is Eastern Promises, from David Cronenberg, starring Naomi Watts, Vincent Cassel and Viggo Mortensen. Now Viggo apparently has a nude fighting scene in this, call me interested!

So this poor film keeps getting its release post-poned in the US and it'll probably be direct to DVD here, but I really want to see it. Jason Behr, yes please and Elias Koteas who I just love both star, so I'm there!

Haha The Bad Music Videos Continued...

Okay, just browsing YouTube, and I looked up this Sinead O'Connor song I like from the 80's featured in the awesome A Nightmare On Elm Street 4. So yeah this Music Video is BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD, and half way through some chick ruins the songs lol! This is soo hilariously bad, enjoy!

Crazah Britney

Well it seems Britney Spears continues to lose control, although getting hounded 24/7 would probably be reason enough for most people to lose it! Check this story out!

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=228456

Spears threw bottle, made death threats: paparazzi
Wednesday Aug 1 11:04 AEST

AP - Britney Spears threw a baby bottle and threatened two photographers after they took pictures of her leaving a Las Vegas spa, the photographers said in a statement.
Spears yelled "I am going to kill you! I am going to f--ing kill you!," at Andrew Deetz, the photographer who was allegedly beaten by Spears' bodyguard on Thursday, according to a statement released by their lawyers.

The men, Deetz, 24, and Kyle Henderson, 23, said they were preparing to sue.

The men were taking pictures of Spears, 25, as she and her children - 22-month-old Sean Preston and 10-month-old Jayden - left the spa at the Wynn Las Vegas casino-hotel about 11.30am local time, accompanied by two bodyguards.

One bodyguard, Cesar Julio Camera, 37, pushed Henderson against the wall until Wynn security intervened and asked Henderson to leave, the statement said.

As they were about 30 paces away and walking in the opposite direction, Camera attacked Deetz from behind, threw him on the ground and punched and kicked him until security pulled him off, it said.

Afterward, Spears ran toward Henderson but was stopped by security, and then threw a baby bottle at him, it said.

Then, in front of several other hotel guests and bystanders, Spears threatened to kill Deetz and said he should get a restraining order against her because she was going to kill him or hire someone that would, it said.

Camera also told Deetz on July 23 outside the Lisa Kline boutique in Beverly Hills, "I have unfinished business with you," the statement alleged.

Spears' lawyer Gary Stiffelman declined to comment.

Wynn Las Vegas released a statement confirming Spears stayed at the hotel and left on Thursday, but also declined to discuss the incident.

"We respect the privacy and do our utmost to maintain the anonymity of our guests," it said.

Las Vegas police issued a summons for a charge of battery to Camera, the only person cited in the incident.

A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints

4 / 5

Started off a little slow, but once you get through that, it gets really good, and I was really into it. Basically its the story of Dito, asked by his Mamma to come back to NY to see his dying father, he's written a book about his life, and as he heads to his old home, we see his life before he left NY. Robert Downey Jr is really good in this, his scenes with Diane Wiest are great. Rosario Dawson always brings it, for her few scenes she owned it. Back in the past we have Shia LaBeouf as the young Dito, I have to say I seriously love this guy, he really owned this role. Although I have to say it was a bit weird hearing him tell his girlfriend he wanted to 'lick her pussy' lmfao! And Channing Tatum also owned his role as Dito's some what crazed friend Antonio. I'd have to say those two were really the stand outs, and their scenes with Chazz Palminteri who also is fantastic are some of the best in the film. This wont be for everyone, especially as the beginning might put people off, but I say give it a go.
