Son Of Rambow/FunnyGames/Stuck

4.5/5

What a simply fantastic film! I loved this so much, it is easily going on my favourite films list! The story is a good one, you have one boy who wants to make a film, he is a bit of a delinquent, you have another boy who is shy and his religion doesn't allowed him to watch television, so one day when the two boys paths cross, he watches First Blood. The two boys go about making their own film, which of course leads them to form a friendship and all of that stuff that goes with it. The film has so much heart, it was just such a joy watching it unfold. The script is great, direction is great, acting is great, can't really complain about anything really! I especially thought the two lead boys were awesome, such great performances. This has such a high rewatchable value for me, I am eager to own it very soon.

3/5

I was really looking forward to this considering it stars Naomi Watts, Tim Roth and Michael Pitt. I was a bit let down, but overal I thought it was alright. It is a slow burn film, but I wasn't bored by it at all. I thought the cast did a pretty good job, stand out clearly Michael Pitt who can play this character so damn well, plus he is sooo easy on the eyes. What actually really got to me was how these people let the two guys just do what they want and play their games with them. I mean it looked like they could have gotten out of that situation so easily but didn't. I think that really let the film down for me, I really felt like the two guys were not that much of a threat yet the family made them one. Was that the point? I'm not sure...I don't know if seeing the original will help as I understand this is a shot for shot remake. There are some rather disturbing moments in the film, the off camera thing really helps with that as well. Hard to recommend this one, as the slow pace will put people off I think.

3.5/5

Being a fan of Stuart Gordon I was really looking forward to this. I had no idea how this would work as a film, the real story is awfully disturbing and I remember hearing about it. Leave it up to Stuart Gordon to make something very unique and disturbing, with his own twist. Story goes a young caregiver (mena Suvari) who is up for a promotion at work, goes out, has drugs/alcohol and decides to drive home, she hits Tom (Rea) who is a now homeless and unemployed. But she doesn't just hit him, he goes through her windshield, where she just leaves him. Brandi starts of as a likeable character but when you see her going to drive home despite the state she's in you automatically think what a stupid idiot. You really sympathise with Tom, played so well by Stephen Rea. And once she hits him, and she just leaves him there, you really just want to throttle her so badly. Mena Suvari is actually quite perfect in this role, displaying all the things her character is going through which ultimately like I said makes you want to throttle her. You can't help but want Tom to get away, but it seems things just go from bad to worse. The ending is a bit over the top but I did like it though. Something different from Stuart Gordon who will forever hold a special place in my heart for bringing my Re-Animator. This is not an easy film to recommend, but I would say if you are a fan of Stuart Gordon, Mena Suvari or Stephen Rea you really should check it out. And yes, this is based upon actual events, look it up, it is very disturbing!

Been awhile eh...

I just realised it has been a while since I've actually blogged. Reason for that would be the never ending back problems, had to have time off because it had gotten that bad. Been getting massage treatments and chiropractic treatments. Unfortunately they haven't fixed the problem, that might take quite a long time before anything really starts to get any better. Waiting for a letter from the hospital to see the physio there. And well the thing which keeps fucking my back up worse and worse is work. Work on the damn steam press!

Trying to get another job, which is something I wish I had kept at a few years ago. Trying to get into something I want to do, but really I just want out of there. It is severely damaging my health and most people don't realise just how bad my actual condition is! Which is really annoying, because it is hard to explain, and such. But just know this, I am in non stop pain, bad non stop pain, until my job changes it will probably only get worse. I am not a pathetic whinger lol but yes this stuff I need to get off my chest! It is just annoying that no one seems to care, or care enough to realise how serious it is. I am in a bad way, and it isn't fun!

Well in other news I finally got my Jason Beam print framed, yay! I did upgrade my mobile phone to an LG touch screen, still getting used to it, but I love it has a nice 5 mega pixel cam on it. I worked out how to use my new iPod haha, and I have videos on there woo. I haven't watched too many films lately, time just seems to pass by. But as always my reviews are posted, so go check 'em out.

Nearly finished this website I've been making for a function centre (aka wog club), honestly that has been a nightmare to do, thanks to two people whom I love dearly always changing their minds on it lol! I've put in soo much work for it, waiting for the pay day hehe.

Still watching the wrestling, Smackdown was a stronger show then Raw last week imo. Jeff Hardy and Shelton Benjamin put on a heck of a match and Jeff vs MVP should be a good one for Summerslam. Seriously on Raw one of the most entertaining things last few weeks has been Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix, I sure hope they win at Summerslam. CM Punk continues to get treated poorly, he better get the win at Summerslam. I do not want to see JBL as Champ, actually I do not want to see JBL at all. HHH vs The Great Khali is going to be terrible, why do I have a bad feeling Khali might win? Edge vs The Undertaker in Hell In A Cell should defintely be the match of the night, and I am sure it'll be fucking awesome too.

On the music front, been listening to a lot of stuff from a few years ago like some Incubus (remember that wicked song Drive?) and Queens of the Stone Age (Songs for the Deaf album) and I got like some wicked Tori Amos B-Sides and live performances. She is pretty damn amazing, loving the stuff a lot. I got a bunch of Placebo B-Sides, but I haven't had a chance to check them out yet.

Got quite a few films to watch, one in particular which I've been waiting for called Stuck. By director Stuart Gordon who directed one of my favourite films Re-Animator. Also got Son of Rambow to watch which looks great, and hopefully it is great hehe. So yes, maybe a few new reviews will arise soon.

The Babysitters

3/5

I'd seen the trailer and it had me quite interested, I always fall for the films about teenagers acting badly. Basically its about a girl in High School who turns her babysitting service into a prostitution service so she can make money for college. Of course it gets more complicated then that, but you have to see that for yourself. Interesting idea, but it falls flat towards the end though. Decent performances all round though, with Katherine Waterston (San Waterston's daughter) as the lead girl Shirley, and of course John Leguziamo as her first client. The chemistry between them was good, but the way things happen just seemed a bit too forced. There was zero chemistry between Cynthia Nixon and Leguziamo who play husband and wife. There are some rather full on scenes during the film, but it is not overly shocking. I can just imagine if Larry Clark had directed this perhaps it would have had a stronger impact.

The Ruins

3/5

Where to start with this? I'd heard this was really good, heard mostly positive things about it. I can see where that comes from, but personally I was pretty disappointed. I've never actually read the book, and I didn't really know what it was about. It has the kind of vibe Cabin Fever has, the isolation and paranoia, although I liked Cabin Fever a lot better then this. Basically four friends are in Mexico and get convinced to go see these ruins. Well yeah little do they know there is something about those ruins...and so it goes on. Seriously, the characters are soooo bloody stupid, I wanted to see them get what was coming to them, and you know what, you're not supposed to feel that way! Jena Malone's character was probably the most annoying and whiny! Urgh! Jonathan Tucker actually was pretty decent in this, and Shawn Ashmore did what he could, even with some questionable scenes. Laura Ramsey who I'd never heard of before was gorgeous, and played her part well. Overall I was rather disappointed but I can appreciate what they were trying to do, and I actually was bored or anything through this, it did actually keep my interest until the end.

Wanted

3/5

I really thought I would like this a lot more then I actually did. I still want to re-watch it and see if my opinion changes. I just didn't think it was as good as people made it out to be. The action is great to watch, it is way over the top and in no way can you take it seriously. Some stuff is just rather silly, too much of it actually. James McAvoy is pretty awesome though, I loved him. He played it so damn awesome all through the film and his characters developement was handled perfectly by him. Another great casting choice is of course Angelina, she rocks as Fox. Although she looks so slim in this, she does her role well. Morgan Freeman basically dials in his performance, nothing new for him. Keep an eye out for General Zod himself Terrance Stamp! Recommended to those who enjoy their cool action sequences without taking things seriously at all.

Portman Says Black Swan Is Like Rosemarys Baby In Terms Of Tone.

by: Super Marcey

Natalie Portman recently spoke to MTV about her upcoming film BLACK SWAN. Not much has been said about the film. It does have ballet dancers, and an apparent sex scene between Portman and co-star Mila Kunis. On the subject of that scene Portman said it was "not explicit in any way,", which is all she said on that subject.

Revealing more about the tone of the film she revealed the following "It's very unique in tone, in terms of genre and tone. I think of it more as a psychological thriller, like 'ROSEMARY'S BABY' in [terms of] genre, if I had to pick a genre."

I do like the sound of that, Portman seems very enthusiastic about the film. It will be opening the Venice Film Festival, I assume we will hear more about the film at that time. As for the rest of us we will have to wait until December 1 to check it out.

The film is Darren Aronovsky's follow up to THE WRESTLER. Along with Portman it also stars Mila Kunis, Winona Ryder and Vincent Cassel.

Six New Pieces Of Art from Resident Evil: Afterlife

by: Super Marcey

Do I have a treat for you today! Six new pieces of art have surfaced for the upcoming RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE. These had been teased at Comic-Con and they are finally here for you to gaze at.

Three of the six feature Milla Jovovich as Alice, looking super awesome I might add. We get a look at Wentworth Miller and Ali Larter as well. I must say these look pretty cool and they actually give me faith this might a good time. The trailer didn't do much for me, it was about the 3D. I don't mind 3D being used here, I do honestly think the gimmick is more suited to horror.

Click on the pics below for full size. Not long to wait now as the film comes out on September 10. It stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller, Sienna Guillory and Boris Kodjoe.

Star of all four films in the series, Milla Jovovich.

SPILLED BLOOD: Paul W. S. Anderson also directed the first film in the series.

No More Jekyll and Hyde For Ferrara

By: Super Marcey

Abel Ferrara recently spoke to UK's The Guardian, where he revealed his JEKYLL AND HYDE film was not going to happen. Last time we had heard about this film the original stars had parted the project (Curtis Jackson and Forest Whitaker). Ferrara spoke about Curtis Jackson "He could be an awesome Ed Hyde. He's the real deal. But it's not gonna get made." So what other reasons are there (besides the exit of its leads) that it's 'not gonna get made'?

"Warner Brothers have put up about one fifth of what the film should cost and want about one third of what it's gonna make." he added "They never made Jekyll & Hyde the way it was written. It's a guy and his creation. Having one actor play both parts is an abomination, a distortion of Stevenson's story. It's a masterpiece. I'm gonna make it one day."

Well there you have it folks, he didn't get the budget he wanted, which is a valid reason. Filming was supposed to start this summer. It is now on hold indefinitely. A shame too, this sounded interesting, especially with having two different actors play Jekyll and Hyde respectively.

Piranha 3D's First TV Spot

by: Super Marcey

PIRANHA 3D is not that far away now, today brings us the first TV spot for the film. My excitement level for this film is high, this new TV spot just blew it through the roof. And why? It shows us exactly why we are excited for this film, bikini clad women and lots of piranha's! I really couldn't ask for anything more, well except to see the film right now.

Not long to go now, the film is set for release on August 20. The film stars (not that you'd know it by this trailer below) Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Christopher Lloyd, Kelly Brook, Jerry O'Connell, Ving Rhames and Richard Dreyfuss.

SPILLED BLOOD: No stranger to horror, Elisabeth Shue also starred in Hollow Man.

Skarsgard a possibility for Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

by: Super Marcey

Variety is reporting that Stellan Skarsgard (watch out for him in next years THOR) is in talks for the role of Martin Vanger in the remake of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. The character of Vanger is a suspect in the disappearance of a teenage girl. He was played by Peter Haber in the original.

On the subject, Stellan had the following to say.
"I've met (director David) Fincher; I want to work with him; he wants to work me. I've had a concrete offer, and now we are in negotiations. The contract is for the period September to March, but I don't know yet when I am supposed to start my part of the film."

He also brought up a few more details on the shooting locations.

"Most of it is to be shot in Stockholm, but some studio work will be done in the U.S. I think there might be some location work there as well, when it becomes too dark to shoot here."

Daniel Craig has already been cast in the film as Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist. The part of Lisbeth Salander has yet to be cast. Last week we found out about a few prospects (Rooney Mara, Lea Seydoux, Sarah Snook and Sophie Lowe) but nothing has been set in stone as yet.

Saw 3D might not be the last in the franchise.

by: Super Marcey

We were all given the impression that SAW 3D (the 7th SAW film) would be the last in the franchise. I am sure there are those of you out there who had your doubts. History has shown us that many franchises do come back, even if we are told otherwise.

Well actress Betsy Russell (she plays Jill in the series) revealed exclusively to PopWrap that the writers have some idea's for an 8th film.

"Before we thought it was ending [with 'SAW 3D'], the writers came up with an unbelievable idea [for 'SAW 8'], it's an amazing story that I would love to see."

She also mentioned the possibility of another film would relay on how well it does at the Box Office.

"
Saw 8" might not be that far off! We want to end near the top, with our integrity in tact and not letting the characters die a slow death, so to speak. But I believe in my heart that someday, somehow, ['SAW 8'] will happen."

There you have it folks, a real possibility that the franchise might just live on. If the writers still have good idea's and the appeal is still there, then I say why not?

The film is set for release on October 29th and it also stars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Sean Patrick Flanery, Gina Holden and Cary Elwes.

Tarantino to direct The Shadow?

by: Super Marcey

Well this is quite the development in THE SHADOW drama's. First we heard that Sam Raimi was on board, then it was David Slade. It has switched studio's, then it seemed forgotten about. Now word on the street is that Quentin Tarantino is a prospect for the director's chair. Not only that, but he is attached as a co-writer.

This certainly has come out of the blue, in all of his ramblings I don't think I have heard him mention THE SHADOW. I do remember he mentioned he was interested in doing a superhero film, an original idea not something already in existence. Perhaps he wants to reinvent this character? Time will tell if this does pan out.

You might remember the original film which came out in 1994. It was directed by Russell Mulcahy (HIGHLANDER), and starred Alec Baldwin, Penelope Ann Miller, Ian McKellan, Tim Curry and Peter Boyle. It had an impressive cast and pretty good effects for the time. However the film was a major flop, now I consider it to be a guilty pleasure.

Does An American Werewolf In London Have A Writer?

by: SuperMarcey

It was only a matter of time before AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON was to get the remake treatment. We may be a step closer to that becoming a reality, with the news that Dimension have a writer in mind. Fernley Phillips is apparently in talks to take the job and pen the script. Phillips wrote THE NUMBER 23 which starred Jim Carrey and was directed by Joel Schumacher.

Word is the Weinsteins want to move away from the original, this would be a modern take. I am not entirely sure what they have in mind with the modern part. One would assume they would be updating the film, much like other horror remakes have done. The original film was known for mixing horror with comedy, I wonder if they want to keep that element? This is one remake we will definitely have to keep an eye on.

Interesting one sheet for M. Night produced Devil

by: Super Marcey

The good folks over at Empire Online have revealed the exclusive new one sheet for DEVIL. The film is based on a story by M. Knight Shyamalan, he is also producing. On board directing are the men behind QUARANTINE, Drew and John Erick Dowdle. The impressive one sheet show us a rather daunting lift. I think I might take the stairs.

So what exactly is DEVIL all about? A group of people trapped in a elevator realize that the devil is among them. Sounds pretty sweet to me, I'd expect perhaps a twist ending coming from M. Knight. I am not sure whether to be excited or not, M. Knight has been disappointing in the last few years. However he isn't in the director's chair this time, the Dowdle boys may pull this one off.

The film is set for release on September 17th and it stars Chris Messina, Bojana Novakovic (below), Jacob Vargas, Joshua Peace and Jenny O'Hara.

New I Spit On Your Grave Stills

by: Super Marcey

Anchor Bay has released some new stills from the I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE remake. The film is set for release later this year on October 8th. With that only being a few months away, it seems only fitting to be getting some new visuals from the film. It recently was screened at Fantasia Film Festival, where Chris Bumbray had to chance to check it and review it.

The original film was a brutal and raw film, in the popular genre (in the 70's anyway) of rape/revenge. The premise of the film can dredge up all sorts of nasty imagery. A writer who is brutalized during her cabin retreat seeks revenge on her attackers, who left her for dead.

Director Steven Monroe has promised this will be just as raw and brutal as the original. Judging by one of the stills below, I would like to think he has delivered on that promise. Check out the stills below.

SPILLED BLOOD: The director of the original film Meir Zarchi, is actually a producer on the remake.

Release Date For Breaking Dawn Part 2

by: Super Marcey

Summit Entertainment have revealed the release date for the final film in THE TWILIGHT SAGA, I guess it is good or bad news depending on who you ask. Since the final book is apparently so epic it needs to be split into two films (much like the final Harry Potter). BREAKING DAWN PART 1 is set for release on November 18 2011, so quite a while away. Now PART 2 is set for release a year after that on November 16 2012.

The way I see it, yes they need time to prepare the films, shoot and edit them. But at almost a year apart it seems to be like they want to drag it out for as long as possible. There is no denying the fans will want this to live on as long as possible, but is this really necessary? I have no doubt these two will be huge at the Box Office, and I am certain the long wait will not affect that.

This time around BREAKING DAWN PART 1 and PART 2 will be Directed by Bill Condon (he does have some horror cred having Directed CANDYMAN: FAREWELL TO THE FLESH). Spoiler Alert for those not in the know, this last chapter in the Saga will chronicle Bella and Edward's marriage and honeymoon. Bella gets pregnant, which causes complications, and as always will she become a vampire? Jacob is in there too, he finds love in an odd place.

The films will feature the usual cast including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene (below), Nikki Reed, Anna Kendrick, Kellan Lutz and Billy Burke just to name a few.

SPILLED BLOOD: You know what I do like about THE TWILIGHT SAGA? Ashley Greene, not only is she gorgeous but she is enjoyable as Alice.

Don't Be Afraid of the Trailer

by: Super Marcey

It was some time last year I first heard about DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, a remake of the made for TV 1973 film. This one coming from producer Guillermo del Toro and directed by new comer Troy Nixey. Things have been kind of quiet about this film, until Comic Con hit where the film had a panel, which you can read about here (cheers Jason Adams). I've had this on my radar since I first heard about the film. They did film this baby in my neck of the woods, after all.

Today IGN debuted the teaser trailer for the film, thank you very much. The trailer is an odd one, it shows almost nothing while adding some rather cool atmosphere. It certainly held my interest, however it doesn't exactly give away any plot points, and you wouldn't know it actually stars Katie Holmes. The film also stars my fellow Aussie Guy Pierce (not in the trailer) and by the looks of it some pretty creepy looking creatures.

The film in a nutshell: A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.

Check out the trailer (below), maybe with the lights off and get ready to be afraid of the dark (oh yeah see what I did there?). The film is set for release Jan 21st next year.

SPILLED BLOOD: Katie sure knows how to make an impression in horror films, she did show us her 'Holmes' in THE GIFT.
