Tomorrow

(Posted 21st Jan)

A little excited, I have an appointment tomorrow about doing a course, make sure I fit all the requirements ect... I mean I don't see what will prevent me from doing it, so it should all go well. At least I will be doing something productive and gaining a qualification, which will go a long way in getting a good job.

The job front is looking so bleak right now, less jobs are out there and more people are becoming unemployed. The worst time to be out of work right now, and not hearing back from applications I've sent out and inquiries I've made is getting tiresome. I haven't heard back about the interview from a week ago, the place that has to call me, called me on something else three times last week which if you read my frustrated blog, know all about. But I am pressing on and I am not going to give up. No matter how much shit life throws at me, I am going to come up smelling like roses

Right now I am looking forward to seeing how tomorrow pans out, and hopefully soon I'll be starting this course, can't wait.

Frustrated

I am really frustrated right now, and pretty pissed off. I just feel like I've been screwed around with employment related issues and its just really f**king me off. It helps to just get this off my chest. The people at this place seem really incompetent, three phone calls, two from the same person about the same thing. And basically the info they needed was provided to them in writing last Friday.

I haven't heard back about this course either, can't get through on the phone, email has gone unanswered. And also I haven't heard back about the interview on Wednesday, neither have the incompetent's and I did write the guy an email to say thank you ect but did not get a reply.

Perhaps I need to stand on a busy road with a sign to state I want work to maybe get some attention. Although I am sure people would only offer prostitution work so perhaps not the best idea.

More then anything I just want to be working, get my life on track, start up driving lessons and everything. But its just too hard with what Centrelink is paying me, I'll be able to pay next months rent and stuff, but now I wont be able to spend anything on myself. So things are going to be pretty tight for awhile.

Twilight

2.5/5

Before you continue, there are possible spoilers, you have been warned.

Hmm what can I say about Twilight? I thought it was really over-rated, I expected a bit more with the way people have been raving about it. I thought the acting wasn't very good for the most part, Robert Pattinson was the worst one, I mean he improved as the film went on but for the first half he was just awful, in a hilarious way I might add. The Cullen family were so weird looking and at times it was intensionally funny. After a while you got used to them, Peter Facinelli was the creepiest looking but at least he was a better actor then most in this film. I really wasn't buying the whole love story thing either, it happened in such a dumb way, it was funny. I mean I wanted to see more passion, but we didn't get that. I also hated the vampire mytho, I thought it was bloody awful and silly, especially when he was in the sunlight.

There are so many just bad scenes which wind up being really funny, in a way that I enjoyed. Like the baseball scene, I thought it was really silly but I still enjoyed it. I can't get over all the swooning for Robert Pattinson, I thought he was cuter in HP. I thought the real hottie was Ashley Greene as Alice Cullen. I can see why 14 year old girls were swooning over this film, but really this was average at best. It was a so bad its good kind of film. I don't think I'll go out of my way to see it again though.

The Wrestler

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

5/5

I have been waiting to see this since I first heard about it, being a Darren Aronofsky fan and of course a wrestling fan. The more bits and pieces I heard about the film, the more excited I was to check it out. Not much was really given away, it took what felt like forever for a trailer to come out. After all the waiting, I was far from disappointed (Which usually ends up being the case), quite the opposite, this was one heck of a film! I cried during the entire film, it really hit me, and hard.

The story is really just so sad, and the sad reality is, this is true for so many in the wrestling industry. This might as well have been a true story, it felt all too real (the style in which it was shot helps that too), and I just knew that the things Randy 'The Ram' Robinson was going through is what so many wrestlers in his position have probably gone through, or at least similar. The character presented I think for the most part is likable, but in a way that you feel sorry for him. He was a big wrestler and name back in the 80's, the real golden age of wrestling. But 20 years later, he works to minimal crowds at school gyms on weekends, a broken down man, who is in pain mentally and physically after 20 years of putting his body on the line doing what he clearly loves. He hasn't really done well for himself, what you get is the feeling perhaps he wasted the money he made in the 80's on drugs and alcohol, and now he lives out of a trailer which at times he can't afford the rent on and is forced to live out of his van.

The role of this character is quite tough and Mickey Rourke is nothing short of perfection in the role. He respected the character he was playing, he disappears into Randy 'The Ram' and at times you really do forget this is a film, it feels more like a documentary. I would say hands down, this is his best role, this is what he was meant to do. I honestly believe this film would not have had the same affect on me if someone else was in the role (Nic Cage I believe would have butchered it, who was originally cast), he really became the character and hit all the right notes. Marissa Tomei, who I believe always delivers was really good in this, playing an aging stripper who he forms a bit of a relationship with. I don't really want to give anything away in regards to that, but again the interaction between them was really believable and again something very sad I thought. We then have the father/daughter relationship, which I think was touched on well enough, perhaps a bit more would have been even better. Evan Rachel Wood again puts on a strong showing and I think she worked perfectly against Mickey Rourke in their scenes together. All of the wrestling scenes, felt very real, I could almost feel his pain in those scenes, physically and emotionally. It isn't easy for a film to provoke such a response in me, but this really did.

I know if I watch it again it will be very difficult and the tears will likely flow once again. I would highly recommend all wrestling fans to check this out, perhaps even watch it back to back with Beyond The Mat (Documentary from 1998 I believe) and you can see just how real this film is, and the story of Randy 'The Ram' is very real and very sad. If you aren't a wrestling fan, watch this film, steer clear of rubbish like The Day The Earth Stood Still remake and watch a real film like this.

Slumdog Millionaire

5/5

Okay so it has taken me like a week and a half to actually gather my thoughts for this film. Firstly I have to say I completely fell in love with this film by the end credits. I thought it was just amazing, the story, the acting, the cinematography, the direction, it was all fantastic.

I really had no real idea what this was about, just that it had to do with the Hindi version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and how they believe the contestant cheated. It is so much more then that, it ends up telling the story of that contestant, Jamal and his life and how it actually relates to the questions. To give more away would spoil it, so I will shush up now. I must say the casting was genius, all the main characters were so good and they did a great job of actually finding actors that as they aged still looked like that character and could actually act.

Dev Patel was just great as Malik, his scenes on the actual show were really strong, I thought, as well as other scenes which I wont mention. Danny Boyle really puts on such a fantastic show, and really hits all the right spots, it really sucks you right in and doesn't let up. By the end I was just about wanting to scream at the screen for what I wanted to happen lol. And the ending credit sequence is fantastic, so make sure you stick around and watch it.

Nice Weekend

Well I had a nice weekend, nothing major going on, very relaxed. Nice to have Dan back from Adelaide, and spend a few days together. Yes we did see one of the worst films, but I guess that happens lol! I mean it was a remake of a sci-fi classic!

Comic book sorting certainly was fun haha nah it was alright, just a tad boring. I was too scared to touch any of the comics even though they were all in their protective covers some awesome art work there though! Dan has a very cool collection, and yes I don't mind the sorting hehe.

Well then come Saturday night, we went bowling. Had not been for such a long time, and yes naturally I sucked at it lol but the ball was really crap. I couldn't use a heavier one and the holes for my fingers (that sounds so wrong) were too small, especially for my thumb. So that didn't help lol! Naturally Mum ended up winning all 3 games, I managed to come second in the last game. I got 2 spares lol! Mum and Dan both got strikes, Dan happened first shot, and then nada lol poor Dan!

Played some Wii, bought a new Wii game, not sure how much I like it. It is a bit on the hard side, and the control doesn't seem to want to work the way I want it to lol but I am sure I will get better at it with some more play time.

It is nice to have a good weekend everyone once in awhile, last week hasn't been overly exciting.

Well bring on this week, hopefully there are more job options for me, I really want to work already!

The Day The Earth Stood Still

0/5

I am sure I was taken to see The Day The Earth Stood Still remake as revenge for Eagle Eye. The film is a massive load of rubbish, it is so bad that it is bad! It doesnt even fall into the so bad its good group like Showgirls and Plan 9. I think Plan 9 had better acting and script then this! The dialogue is awful, all the cast struggles with it and look bad, especially the extremely annoying offspring of Will Smith who should be banned from films. He is more annoying then Dakota Fanning in the War of the Worlds remake. Keanu was perfect, no acting required. Kathy Bates who usually rocks was awful, as was Jennifer Connelly, but given the awful script its no wonder. None of the characters had any connection either. I am positive no one read the script, it is baffling how it got greenlit, monkeys on a typewriter could do better. They basically shit on the original, which is one of the most fantastic films. Watch that and ditch the remake. If I had the choice of watching the remake again or swim in a pool of sewage I wouldn't be chosing the film.

Happy 2009

Well Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had good times! My NYE would have been better if I didn't have such inconsiderate asshole neighbours blasting loud music, singing badly and letting off firecrackers till 6:30am! Just had a night in with Mum and Toby and also Carlos. Would have loved to have spent it with Dan but he decided to go to Adelaide. Lets hope this year is better than the shit that was 2008. That was a rotten year for me and my family. Well in 5 weeks got Rachie and Lucas wedding, can't wait!
