Thursday

Yet another day off work, although this is my usual day off. Not much happening, washed the bed sheets, hung 'em up, they dried and back on the bed.

Finished all 13 episodes of Chuck, I really am loving the show. Because of the strike I think they ended the Season there, and Season 2 will start in the US Fall season. Which is a bit of a wait *sigh* and I am likely to probably re-watch the show before then.

I did a bit of cleaning up, trying not to think about all the money problems there are right now. I haven't heard back from any jobs I've applied for, so next round of applying is going to start shortly.

No idea what the weekend has in store for me, I hope things pan out in a good way for once.

Velvet Goldmine

5/5

I want to have sex with this movie over and over and over again!

I do love just everything about this film and I do mean everything! The acting is fantastic, the cast is fantastic! I love the script, I love the story and the costumes are just brilliant! I'm not sure how many times I've seen this but I can watch it over and over again! Truly one of the best scenes is Brian Slade and Curt Wild naked in bed together, doesn't get much more awesome then that folks!

Get a clue...

So, seriously between Facebook and MySpace (Spacebook?) the stupid comments I've been getting from people I don't know is simply just pathetic. I mean I get a message from some random, hi sexy or hi you have nice boobs or hi you look really horny or hi there sexy i want to know you. I mean, honestly do you think I am going to reply to that? Erm no, get a clue! That is not how you talk to someone you don't know. I think it is really quite rude and not appropriate at all. If you do that in real life you are likely to get a slap across the face, why is it okay to do it online? Well I don't think so. Seriously guys, get a clue, women do not like to be talked to like that! I'm not going to give you any respect if you don't give it to me.

Sheesh not only that but apparently people out there think Flixster is a dating service, not a movie network and I get between 10 to 30 friend requests a day from these people. They put their phone numbers in their details, like whoa how stupid can you get. I had to disable anyone that was not on my friends list from being able to leave comments because I get them all the time, they barely made any sense.

Phew now that is what I call a rant!

Reading...

Started reading one called True Crime, its basically just about crimes and criminals, it has a few pages on the subject complete with photos (So far its covered like Jesse James, John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde) and some of the photos used are really good too, interesting to see.

Also started reading this which I got for Christmas

Synopsis:
Cinema Now examines the work and key themes of 60 filmmakers working around the world today, from the cream of the crop of young Hollywood to the new wave of Asian mavericks to burgeoning auteurs from Europe and Latin America. Watch Pedro Almodovar at work. Immerse yourself in the stunning imagery of Wong Kar-Wai. Feel the emotional impact of the films of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Carlos Reygadas. Live in the strange worlds of Guy Maddin, Matthew Barney, and Tsai Ming-Liang. Cinema Now is packed with stunning full-color photos and exclusive on-set photography supplied by the filmmakers, and even comes with a supplementary DVD containing exclusive short films, extracts, trailers, and much more.

So far so good, the photos are stunning, just read the part about Darren Aronofsky, which focused more on The Fountain. Wont take long to read and then I'll have to check out the DVD and of course it has already given me films to add to my to see list.

Cold Cases by Charlotte Greig

Just finished reading this ... give it a 4/5

Pretty good book with lots of different cases, the only real issue is that some cases really take your interest and you really want to know more about it, but because the book covers so much there is only around 6 pages per case. A bit more would have been good, but only with certain cases, as some really were quite interesting and I'm curious to find out more about them.

David Cronenberg's Stereo & Crimes Of The Future

Stereo - 2.5/5

Good to see early Cronenberg being such a huge fan. But this is not very good, it is rather boring and not all that interesting. When you read what it is about it sounds interesting but the execution of it, is not however. Due to budget there is no music, no sound what so ever, only the narration voice-over. The characters in the film, well half the time I can't tell what they are doing, with no sound it makes it all the more difficult. It is a bit too long, but the themes presented in this are typical Cronenberg, a sign of things to come.

Crimes Of The Future - 3.5/5

Certainly an improvement over Stereo, Cronenberg shows he has some interesting ideas and concepts. Still, this for me didn't hold my interest too much, it was a little boring in parts. Perhaps if it had been done a little different it might have held my interest more, but the ideas are certainly present. I thought his use of sounds were rather interesting, still there is no dialogue, only the voice over narration. You could tell he had more of a budget here then Stereo and it is in colour and not black and white which I think helped this, as Cronenberg takes full advantage. There are some fantastic visuals, especially the very last scene, extremely disturbing but so well done. Seeing this you can clearly see Cronenbergs ideas for his future films.

The things you don't like to be reminded of

So I watched The Brave One today, and the beginning of the film brought back a lot of memories of an event which happened to me a few years ago. Its the kind of thing I really don't like being reminded of, and thinking about. Although what actually happened in the film isn't what happened to me, it still brings back those memories and the feelings of what could have happened to me if I hadn't of gotten away. It was also a solid reminder of why I don't like being out alone at night time, and the feeling of not feeling safe when out a lot. It is a horrible thing to feel, but when you've been through an experience that gives you those feelings, its hard to explain but you just will always feel like it might happen again. One of the reasons why I refuse to bus after a certain time, I've had some close calls doing that already, and I want to feel safe. Sometimes I really don't like having to justify why I feel that way. But something bad happened to me, and theres a reason I don't feel safe.

Good to just rant about this and get it out.

The Brave One

2.5/5

I thought this was pretty average, sure Jodie Foster can carry a film and she's great. But the actual script and storyline really let this one down. It was really just too unbelievable, and I really thought it could have been done in a way which seemed more plausable and because of that it really took away from the film. I'm not sure I bought the ending either, with everything that had happened it, all the character build up it seemed to go in the wrong direction with what they were saying. But that is the thing, the film felt confused, what it wanted to say how it came about. For revenger films I might prefered Death Sentence, that was more straight forward and that certainly didn't give you the idea of it being believable where this one seemed to want you to think that way.

Gaming

So I thought blah, might reinstall the ol' Star Wars Battlefront 2 game and give that a go again.

Man I missed this game, so much fun! I love being able to play as like Darth Maul (Wooo 70 kills first time) and stuff like that, and I love being the droids as well. Some maps though, so bloody shit. Sometimes it's just better doing instant action so I can do the maps that don't lag up as shit. I didn't play too much because I didn't want to have my back playing up, but I did get a total of 107 kills on the laggiest map which was the most I'd gotten today, so not bad at all.

South Park me

Yeah I got bored and decided to play around on the South Park character maker thingy hehe, of course I have been watching South Park lately, catching up. So fucking hilarious I gotta say.

Anyway check me out!

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

4.5/5

Firstly I don't think I really need to go into what this about, the title basically tells you that. Firstly I have to say this is an amazingly gorgeous film to watch, the cinematograhpy is fantastic. Certain shots are just so beautiful and so well done, they just stick with you. The score is stunning as well, perfectly fitting for the film. The film starts off giving us a little into on the subject of Jesse James, and we meet him before a robbery, as does a young man who idolises him Robert Ford. It goes on from there, showing us sides to the characters involved and what leads the eventual assassination. Brad Pitt does a fantastic job as Jesse James, showing all his highs and lows. Casey Affleck yet again shines, the man is amazing. His portrayal of Robert Ford was true and real, I am glad he was the one cast for this role. Also giving a very strong performance was Sam Rockwell as Charlie Ford, especially towards the second half of the film. I know the running time might put people off, but I didn't even notice, it certainly didn't feel long, and I think that just goes to show what a great movie it is. This is a character driven piece, it is not a shoot 'em up action packed piece, and it works so well. The script is great, and well crafted. Recommended if you are a Western fan, like your character driven films, like your Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck.

Watchmen pic

This picture came out yesterday and it looks soooo fucking fantastic!

We get our first official glimpse of Rorschach (There was that one test frame hidden in the unrated 300 trailer), and it looks soooooooooooooo good! This really seems like it has been faithful to the graphic novel, hopefully this wont disappoint, but yikes we're still over a year away from a release. And please....no delays! So pissed still over Star Trek getting delayed by months!

3:10 To Yuma

5/5

What a movie! I loved this! I expected to like it, but not totally fall in with it! Everything about this was great, I loved the story (Yes I know it was a remake), and I liked the way our two leads developed over the course of the film. Russell Crowe is amazing in his as Ben Wade, truely this has to be his best role (And coming off a strong performance in American Gangster), the man was gold! Speaking of gold, Christian Bale, the man can do no wrong, he's always excellent! This role was suited to him so well, and the chemistry between Bale and Crowe was spot on perfection. It would not have worked with other actors. Of course Ben Foster is a stand out, he's fantastic. Even in the worst of films he's great, and he made a supporting character quite the interesting one. Again if anyone else was in the role I don't think it would have worked. There are some great appearances in this too, I also really liked Alan Tudyk as the doctor and Logan Lerman as the son. The cinematogray is unreal, that is the only way I can describe it. It looked amazing and the score was just excellent, perfectly fitting. This movie is going on my list of favourites, it is fantastic.

Heathers

5/5

The ultimate teen high school black comedy! Who didn't love this movie growing up? This totally go me through my youth and watching it again was just truly awesome. The script is great, so clever and funny and for back then very daring. I'm not even sure they'd dare do this today honestly! Winona Ryder plays her part well, and Shannen Doherty was perfectly cast as the bitch, not much work she had to do. Kim Walker is also really good, her bitch is great. The real stand out is Christian Slater as Jason Dean, he's all kinds of awesomeness. Back in the day Christian Slater was quite the actor, this and Pump Up The Volume probably his two best roles. Always a fun movie to watch, glad I own it now!

Damn rashes!

I dunno who the heck I've pissed off, seems my luck just does not exisit! If it isn't illness or back problems or something, then I get a damn rash/hives! I have NO idea why but yesterday at work I broke out in hives, got some antihisamines from the chemist, and it was just on my arms and a bit on my back and it slowly went away, then it came back and then it showed up on my legs and thighs and went away. Then today slowly it all came back, all at once! I thought maybe it was heat/sweat related but I haven't been sweating today as I'm not at work, I've got the a/c on. I thought perhaps the new vitamins I got gave me this reaction but my Dad doesn't seem to think so. It has gone down a bit now, and thank fuck it is not itchy! I took another tablet earlier, so either way that stops the itching. I just hope this clears up by tomorrow, or it's the doctors for me, and not sure they'll be able to help either, because they'd probably suggest the tablets.

If you wanna check out what these fantastic things look like, go for it!

Gone Baby Gone

4.5/5

I've been looking forward to this for quite some time, I was really impressed by the trailer and wanted to see how Ben Affleck would do behind the camera. Glad to report, Affleck has done a great job! Perhaps he should do more behind the camera, what he has here is a very good and mature film. Excellent casting choices, with his brother Casey who is proving what a fantastic actor he is. This role was made for him to play, with some great support from the likes of Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris (Who really shines here, he added so much to the role, he is fantastic). Michelle Monaghan was good too, but I think the female stand out here is easily Amy Ryan as the mother of the child who goes missing. The story is about a child who goes missing, members of the family contact two private investigators to help (Affleck and Monaghan), this is where things get complicated and things go wrong. It is so much better going into this not knowing much, and let it all unfold before your eyes. The ending I thought was well done, it makes you think and it makes you decide what is right and what is wrong in the situation. Very impressed with this film, well done to both Afflecks!

Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door

4/5

Firstly this isn't an easy movie to get through, the subject matter is quite disturbing and depressing. The fact that this was based on a real story makes it even more so. While it is a fictionalised account of that story (Based on the book of the same name) the main things which make this so disturbing is there. Basically its the story of a young boy, who meets a girl who he's living next to. Her parents died and she along with her younger sister get sent to live with an aunt who has all boys. For whatever reason the aunt seems to hate the girls and slowly she gets tortured by the family shes staying with and their friends from the neighbourhood. The young boy next door, knows whats going on is wrong and wants to save her. Watching something like this is just a horrible reminder what there are some truly evil people in this world (Much like Alone With Her reminds you of this), and it is hard to understand the motives behind the actions of these people. This is not something for the weak at heart, you really need to be prepared for this, it will stick with you long after you've watched this.

Bad back

I haven't been around much due to my bad back, I've been in non-stop pain, non-stop headaches and getting migranes every few days. Things are really bad, I am hoping I am seeing the Chiropractor tomorrow and get some relief from this horrible state I'm in. Being in non-stop pain is quite horrible, I can't do much, and it makes work all that much more unbearable too. I can't believe how bad it is, and with no money to spend, it makes it all the more difficult to get treatment for it.

Saturday

So another Saturday has come and gone. Went to work, got some photos taken for the website I'm making for work, and so far I think it is coming along nicely. Still have a fair bit to do, and I have to do a bit more research. Unfortunately my bad back/neck is not helping matters and I can't be at the PC for too long at a time. So I have to take it slow, and take it easy!

I did a bit more cleaning, getting rid of stuff I really don't need anymore, if I do a bit each week it'll be all done soon, after all there is only so much I can put in the bin lol it isn't a big bin.

Took Toby for a walk today, poor thing got worn out rather quickly though, but he enjoyed it. I also did the laundry, what fun that is! And I watered the lawns, and yes I stuck to the restrictions, I'm a good girl!

A Scanner Darkly

3.5/5

What a bizzare film! At first the animation put me off, but after a few minutes I got used to it. It was very well done though, the scramble suit looked awesome. I wouldn't mind hiding out in one of those! The story was an interesting one, one about drugs in the future, paranoia, different personalities and the list goes on. The performances were actually really good, Keanu was good, Winona was good, Woody was good, but the stand outs were definitely Rory Cochrane and Robert Downey Jr who basically just stole the scenes they were in. It was lacking a few things with the characters I thought, but overall it was pretty good. Certainly a very unqiue film to say the least.

New Photo

So blah

So I had to go back to the doctors today, they sent a letter saying I had to come in, and it was concerning the pap smear I had in December. So I was freaking out that something was wrong, but so far nothing to worry about, the results came back inconclusive so I have to redo the pap smear which will happen next month urgh. So everything should be fine, I also got dose 2 of the cervical cancer vaccine, I get the last one in 4 months. Damn thing has given me a dead arm though, it is rather sensitive but I'll be fine eh!

Got to take Toby to the Vets later today, he has to have his check up and get his medication refilled, which cost an arm and a leg *sigh* damn money hungry Vet's! But yes little Toby is worth it, he's my baby!

Not much else to report, well last night I was having a few Scrabulous games with a mate and I actually won! Thank you Jounce! I added the J to ounce on a 3xletter score hehe

What Should Your Superpower Be?

Your Superpower Should Be Invisibility

You are stealth, complex, and creative.
You never face problems head on. Instead, you rely on your craftiness to get your way.
A mystery to others, you thrive on being a little misunderstood.
You happily work behind the scenes... because there's nothing better than a sneak attack!

Why you would be a good superhero: You're so sly, no one would notice... not even your best friends

Your biggest problem as a superhero: Missing out on all of the glory that visible superheroes get

Are You Id, Ego, or Superego?

You Are the Ego

You take a balanced approach to your life.
You definitely aren't afraid to act out on your desires - even crazy ones.
But you usually think first. Morals drive you as much as hedonism does.
You've been able to live a life of pleasure... without living a life of excess.

Owwwwwwwwwwww

Last night the stupid broken draw fell on my foot and crushed it, it hurt so badly and it is now the next day and its worse! I can't really walk, barely hobblying around. I lasted 90mins at work I couldn't stand on it, it kept getting worse and the colour was changing on it! Gah! And I twisted my ankle twice as well, I am having the worst luck! I managed to find a bandage when I got home for it, at least it is more manageable but I am sitting down keeping it elevated!

Meanwhile I continued to watch Season 1 of Brotherhood, watched 2 episodes yesterday I had to remember what had happened. I watched 6 episodes of Women's Murder Club I quite like it, very girly though. I am now watching the first episode of this new HBO show called In Treatment with Gabriel Bryne, it is certainly interesting so far. This episode also has Melissa George who is really good actually, nice with dark hair I might add.

Cleaning up

So today I decided to continue with cleaning up, getting rid of things I don't need in preparation for moving out when the lease expires in a few months.

I went through my clothes, which I did like six months ago and then I got rid of a garbage bag full. This time around however I went through two bags! How does all this build up? Some stuff hadn't fit me for years! Honestly why did I hold on to it? Crazy stuff! I also got rid of a garbage bag full of handbags, some I hadn't used for like 5 years! Of course all this is going to Good Will, everything is in great shape, they'll sell the stuff really fast and it is a good cause.

I also cleaned up my CD collection last night, got rid of stuff I have no idea why it was there and realized alot of stuff I used to have isn't there anymore. I found my Confessions album during the clean up today, so that is one I don't have to buy again. I did buy R.E.M. Automatic For The People (One of the all time great albums) as I have no idea where my old copy went. It was only $10 so a good buy, if I can keep getting stuff at that price, I'll be able to slowly rebuild my collection.

I started to build my DVD Wishlist, there are like 70 odd titles on there, which is alot! You can find it on my DVD Collection site, so you know if you want to buy me anything, just check there hehe.

So next weekend and probably during the week after garbage collection I'll be doing more cleaning up. I got rid of like 30 odd VHS tapes I'll never need anymore and I have so many more to slowly get rid of. It feels good to get rid of alot of junk, and I'll be doing this until the move.

I need to start saving to buy new stuff, there is a pretty cool sofa that IKEA has that isn't too expensive I think I'll get down the line. Seeing as the sofa's here aren't mine and are falling apart anyway. A few more things will have to get bought, like a new fridge and things, so I have a few months to sort that out.

But I am very much looking forward to finding a new place and starting over, even if I have to remain in Adelaide. Now to try and find a new job, more hours and more money!

Lost is back

Yep one of the best TV shows of the past few years is back! And what a Season Premiere it was I have to say, I was very impressed and very interested! Lets hope the strike gets resolved so they can finish the next 8 episodes! I really love the direction the show has taken, with Flash-Forwards now, and this one especially was quite well done.

If you are a die-hard Lost fan, see it now!

Here is a preview for next weeks episode
