It was only a matter of time before AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON was to get the remake treatment. We may be a step closer to that becoming a reality, with the news that Dimension have a writer in mind. Fernley Phillips is apparently in talks to take the job and pen the script. Phillips wrote THE NUMBER 23 which starred Jim Carrey and was directed by Joel Schumacher.
Word is the Weinsteins want to move away from the original, this would be a modern take. I am not entirely sure what they have in mind with the modern part. One would assume they would be updating the film, much like other horror remakes have done. The original film was known for mixing horror with comedy, I wonder if they want to keep that element? This is one remake we will definitely have to keep an eye on.
